She’s Always There For Us

“Working together, we have made great progress – I seek re-election as your district councilor because I believe that there is more to do, and our best days are ahead”

-Candy Mero-Carlson

Proven leadership and the ability to build partnerships to achieve substantial results.

  • Recreational Spaces: With over $100 million dollars in secured funding, Candy is dedicated to creating new parks and preserving playgrounds in neighborhoods throughout the district. Her effort has ensured that residents have access to vibrant green spaces and safe play areas for their enjoyment and community engagement.
  • Quality of Life: Under Candy’s leadership, the quality of life for residents neighboring Indian Lake was preserved by eliminating the use of loud and dangerous jet skis.
  • Pedestrian Safety: Candy has prioritized pedestrian and travel safety across the district by installing speed humps and through the paving of over 12 miles of our streets and sidewalks.
  • New Development: Over the past 8 years, District 2 has emerged as the thriving hub of development in Worcester. With a strong focus on promoting businesses and fostering new developments on Shrewsbury St. and in the Canal District, Candy champions the growth of local small businesses, while also ensuring the success of prominent attractions like Polar Park and the Worcester Public Marketplace.
  • Preserving our Community: As our city continues to grow, it is crucial that we maintain and develop accessible recreational spaces for our children and families across our city. When it appeared the development of new housing at the former Mount Carmel property would impact the existing Joe DiMaggio Little League field, Candy worked with State Senator Michael Moore and the developer to secure funding and rebuild the field at East Park.
  • Public Safety: Worcester has earned recognition from US News & World Report as one of the safest communities in the country to reside in. Candy is committed to ensuring our public safety departments have the resources required to keep our city safe and spearheaded the initiative to rebuild the emergency communications system, ensuring enhanced security and prompt response capabilities for our residents.
  • Inclusionary Zoning: Candy stands firmly behind the implementation of inclusionary zoning, and her support has been instrumental. The Worcester City Council’s recent decision not only mandates a minimum percentage of affordable housing units within private development projects but also ensures the inclusion of disabled housing in the plan, ensuring greater accessibility and affordability for residents in need.
  • Fare-Free WRTA: Serving on the Transportation Committee, Candy successfully secured funding to establish a fare-free WRTA (Worcester Regional Transit Authority) system through 2024. Her efforts resulted in the implementation of a public transportation system that is accessible to all residents without the burden of fares, promoting equitable mobility within the community.

Over the past 8 years, Candy Mero-Carlson has been there for the residents of District 2.

As a native of Worcester, Candy Mero-Carlson grew up like many of us in a traditional Worcester three decker. For over five decades, Candy has lived in District 2 and has never forgotten her roots. After being active in the community for dozens of years and serving in numerous leadership roles across Worcester, in 2015, Candy was elected as District 2 City Councilor. In 2019, Candy retired from her long-standing professional career at Harvard/Pilgrim Health Care, where she had dedicated a substantial portion of her professional life. Following her retirement, she transitioned into a full-time role as the City Councilor for District 2, fully committing herself to serve the community.
